New Homes Need Home Inspections Too!!

I was recently hired to conduct a home inspection of a new construction home in a Chicago Suburb. The home had typical punch-list items that needed to be corrected and the home was near completion. The homebuyers had hired me to do a thorough inspection which included an Infrared Thermal Imaging inspection of the home. Some construction flaws were found during my inspection.

At the end of the inspection, I do a Thermal Imaging scan of the home to detect thermal anamolies which may indicate an underlying problem. When I scanned the Dining Room ceiling, I found a water leak from the bathtub in the Hall Bathroom which is directly above. The leak was confirmed utilizing a non-destructive moisture meter and the area was tagged for the necessary repairs.

This leak (dark spot)would have taken awhile to actually soak through the drywall and could have caused damage to furniture, flooring, etc. With the Thermal Imaging inspection I was able to identify this problem for the builder to correct before my client took posession of the home.
